MY THOUGHTS ON LEASING, DIESELS, HYBRIDS, ETC.
DIESELS: AND CHECK OUT MY OTHER WEB SITE: www.ricks-autosales.net

Diesel are the way to go on a truck if you are going to tow. You'll get twice the fuel mileage over a gas engine and you can double the torque. Torque is most important for towing. Now if it's a truck that is going to be used as a daily driver, stick to gas. Warms up alot faster in the morning thus you get heat alot faster inside, and better driveability. The gas engine will get you better mileage in around-town driving.
NOTE: In 2008, all new diesels will have to be smogged!!!! That means, NO MORE chipping, 4" exhausts, etc.!! The 01-07 Duramax's are classics! You can crank them up to 1000 lbs of torque! And the Ford 7.3L, which was discontinued mid year 2003, is still the strongest most reliable diesel Ford makes!
LEASING:
Do you change cars every 3-4 years? Than leasing is for you. You're always in a car under warranty, a newer car or truck with the latest technology, free towing from the manufacturer, etc. Don't worry about milage. I can set up a lease for 12, 15, 20, 30K miles per year so at the end just turn it in to me and get another one. If you're going to keep a vehicle for 5 or more years, DON'T LEASE.
Now, if a luxury car is in your future, leasing is the ONLY way to go! ALL luxury cars today (MB, Lexus, BMW, etc.) depreciate 30% IN THE FIRST YEAR!
Example: $100,000 car, plus T&L, is $110,000. Add interest over a 5 year loan, you're looking at spending $125,000. The car will be worth, at best, $20-30K in 5 years. YOU'VE LOST $80-90k!! Now, if you had leased that same car, at say, $900 a month, 900X60= $54,000. Do the math.
Yes, I can lease you a 1 to 2 year old car too. THE SECRET: keep the lease short if you do that. No more than 2-3 years.
HYBRIDS
The Jury is still out on Hybrids. First, they cost up to $10,000 MORE than their gas counterpart, and what will you do with 400 lbs of batteries in 7 years? That's HAZARDOUS WASTE. Who will pay to scrap that? Alot of Banks won't lease hybrids for that reason! They don't want them back!
Plus, God forbid, if you're ever in a major accident, you've got 200-400 lbs of batteries and acid flying around with you. No one EVER mentions that.
My customers have reported back to me they don't get ANY better mileage driving around town with a hybrid. Is it worth the extra cost?????????
